The right turn

THIS IS MY TRY:

The lightning crashed again, blinding him for a few seconds. It lit up the old building behind the trees. He noted that the road has forked to two obscure paths a few feet away from him, the right turn lead him to the old, dilapidated mansion, which may have some intact rooms and a caretaker. The left one disappeared in the shrubs and bushes.

Someone has been stalking him ever since his car broke down.. he could hear him or it but have not been able to catch a single glimpse even after turning back dozens of times…

He took the right-turn; the road took him up the mini hill on which the mansion was built. The stalker was still behind him, he could hear his steady footsteps- the footsteps that has rattled his nerves. As if it was sounding in his head, that’s why he could hear it so clearly and steadily through gust of winds, rustle of leaves and thunders.

It seemed to be deserted then he noted a faint light, coming from one of the far away rooms on first floor.

“Anybody here?” he shouted.

A thunder replied him filling up the courtyard with blinding flash of lightning.

He turned back, the courtyard was vast and empty- there was no sign of the stalker. He hoped that he has left him alone or maybe he is waiting for his chance … standing in the darkness… waiting for him to return disappointed after discovering the mansion is empty.

He braced himself and decided to take the chance- the corridor that lead him to the stairs was covered with cobwebs, hope sank deep, but there were chances that he could stumble into a room with door, to save himself from the stalker till morning… he reached the stairs. Frequent flashes of lightning kept helping him to find his way.

He started climbing, within a few minutes he reached the first floor balcony- he could see the light now, it was man-made light, looked like a lantern or candle. He quickened his pace towards the room. The wooden floor under him creaked and moaned, reminding him of its age.

He reached the door, there was no one inside, a candle was burning, it was bizarre, there was no window or door only the openings were baring their hollow mouth like monsters yet the candle was burning.

He could feel the sweat forming… then he heard the footsteps approaching him… he turned back… a thin man was standing in the dark balcony…..

“I was waiting for you!”

A sudden gust of wind blew the candle away.
